Supporting Arkansas farmers and ranchers while ensuring safe food, fiber, and forest products for the citizens of Arkansas, the nation, and across the globe

Arkansas Forestry Commission

Overview

The Arkansas Forestry Commission (AFC) provides oversight guidance to the Forestry Division in pursuing its mission to protect Arkansas's forests, and those who enjoy them, from wildland fire and natural hazards while promoting rural and urban forest health, stewardship, development, and conservation for all generations of Arkansans.

Act 691 of 2023 abolished the Board of Registration for Foresters, required the AFC to assume the former board's duties, and created the Registered Forester Committee to make recommendations on matters formerly under the jurisdiction of the board.

The nine-member board is appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. Three members must be tree farmers owning 250 acres or less of timber acreage and three members must be registered foresters. Each congressional district must be represented on the AFC. Board members are appointed for five-year terms.
